Eight friends of the starry sky founded the association on October 16, 1991: Circle of Friends of Astronomy Bad Salzschlirf e.V. with the aim of reaching an observatory where the sun is the focus of observation. In the course of this, the opportunity should be offered in the East Hessian area to deal more closely with astronomy, in particular with our central star Sun, through lectures and information. Far away from urban centers with their increasing light pollution, the microclimate of Bad Salzschlirf offers a suitable location for the project: "Bad Salzschlirf Sun Observatory". Although the observation and documentation of the sun in different wavelengths is given special attention in the observation operation, observations of objects in our solar system, as well as galaxies, planetary nebulae and globular star clusters are offered to the public again and again.
