The Rhine Falls are an impressive natural spectacle, especially after the snowmelt. At 150 meters wide and 23 meters high, they are the largest waterfalls in Europe. In summer, up to 600,000 liters of water per second cascade down the falls. They are estimated to be approximately 15,000 years old. Access to the northern bank is free. On the southern bank, admission costs 5 Swiss francs (including entry to Laufen Castle and access to the viewing platforms).

The Rhine Falls are 23 meters high and 150 meters wide. The scour in the impact zone has a depth of 13 meters. With medium water flow of the Rhine, 373 cubic meters of water per second fall over the rocks in the Rhine Falls (average summer runoff: about 600 m³ / s). The highest flow rate was measured in 1965 with 1250 cubic meters, the lowest flow rate in 1921 with 95 cubic meters per second. The outflow was similarly low in 1880, 1913 and 1953.
