The Youghiogheny River, or the Yough for short, stretches for 134 miles before merging with the Monongahela River. The river provides plenty of recreational opportunities such as paddlesports, fishing, and birdwatching.

Connellsville is a charming town located on the banks of the Youghiogheny River. It's known for its history, art, and the great outdoors.

This relatively short section of the 150-mile rail trail is pretty much entirely double-track dirt and packed limestone paths. There are some views of the river and some wetland ponds along this section of trail that is often utilized for out-and-back (and point-to-point) long runs.

Currently, the Sheepskin Trail is just a short 2-mile connector trail off of the Great Allegheny Passage path, but there are plans to extend this path in time. This trail is smooth crushed limestone every step of the way and is a little less traveled than the more popular Great Allegheny Passage.

The Great Allegheny Passage is a multi-use trail that spans 150 miles from Cumberland to Pittsburgh through Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands. This is a particularly pretty section of the trail that leads into Connellsville city. It runs alongside the Youghiogheny River and features woodland, bridges and sensational water views.

Connellsville is a relatively small city, but big in the range of cities in Fayette County. It is known for its history, art and beautiful outdoor spaces, including the Youghiogheny River that runs right through the center.

Bowest Junction links the Great Allegheny Passage trail with Sheepskin Trail along the Youghiogheny River. You'll also find the magnificent Dunbar Creek Viaduct here that spans over the railway line.

Great place to plan a meal along the GAP trail. There is a bike shop on the trail for maintenance and washing your bike.
