The Bannalpsee is a popular excursion destination in central Switzerland and is located in the municipality of Wolfenschiessen in the canton of Nidwalden. The lake is located in a beautiful mountain landscape at an altitude of 1587 meters above sea level. The Bannalp reservoir is fed by the Bannalpbach and the Secklisbach, the latter of which flows out of the lake. The Bannalp power station is operated by the Nidwalden Cantonal Electricity Works (EWN).

The Brisen lies between the Engelbergertal and the Isental on the canton border between Nidwalden and Uri. The mountain marks the western end point of a long mountain ridge, which runs to the Oberbauenstock and is the highest point of it. The Haldigrat slopes down towards the Engelbergertal and separates the Steinalp above Niederrickenbach from the Sinsgäu near Oberrickenbach. A third ridge runs east to Hoh Brisen, which at 2413 m above sea level. M. is even higher and is only separated from the breeze by a saddle 70 meters deep. However, since the Hoh Brisen is not visible from the north and has not been developed for tourism, the Brisen is perceived as the main summit. To the south of the Brisen lies the Chaiserstuel, which is almost the same height.

In summer, the Bannalpsee can be reached in 8 minutes with the "Fellboden - Bannalpsee cable car" (s'rotä Bähnli). For the timetable, see the website: https://www.bannalp.ch/index.php/fahrplan There is a wonderful 1-hour circular tour around the Bannalpsee. There are various barbecue options (with wood) at the mouth of the mountain stream in the Bannalpsee. I asked around and found out that you can also swim in the lake. Various other hiking options invite you to explore the great landscape and for families with younger children there is the Zwärgliweg. In the Bannalpsee mountain inn, you will receive very friendly service and food. :-) They also offer overnight accommodation.
