The start of the via ferrata can be reached from Holzgau in about half an hour. It is divided into three routes of varying difficulty levels, which can be easily combined with one another: the chamois (B/C), the ibex (C+) and the eagle route (D/E). A highlight is certainly the crossing of the roaring Simms waterfall using a total of three rope bridges. A via ferrata experience that is absolutely recommended!👌

What this highlight means is the Simms Waterfall. It can be reached through the right side of the valley via a good gravel path towards Rossgumpenalm/Café Uta, so you can observe the waterfall from close up. It was created artificially in the 19th century by the Englishman Frederic Simms through blasting. The waterfall is about 30 m high and is fed by the Höhenbach. There are many hikers on the route, most of whom want to go to the Holzgau suspension bridge.

Depending on the weather, the short walk through the gorge to the waterfall can be very slippery.

From the Schwarzwassertal, the narrow Schwarzwasserbach flows above and below ground to Riezlern in the Kleinwalsertal, where it flows into the Breitach. Before that it crosses the Wäldele, through which you can take an interesting hike along the stream, from Riezlern to the Auenhütte or vice versa. There is a regular bus service for the way back. Normally, the Schwarzwasserbach and the associated boiler holes are well filled with water. Under rare conditions, however, the above-ground, visible Schwarzwasserbach can dry up completely.
