The Strohwollner Gorge can be explored in both summer and winter. In winter, the waterfalls are partially frozen and look stunning. The best time to visit is around midday on a sunny day, when the pools of water create a truly spectacular display of colors! The gorge is easily reached from Lofer in half an hour. In winter, we recommend wearing spikes on your shoes, as the paths and walkways can be icy. Have fun! :)

Very beautiful gorge, especially in the morning hours when there is not so much going on

The Strohwollner Gorge in St. Martin near Lofer is one of the most picturesque gorges in the Saalach Valley. The short hike offers impressive natural experiences: first the water thunders over the rocks before the torrent calms down and flows gently further down the valley. Especially on warm summer days, the gorge is pleasantly cool due to its shady location and is therefore a popular destination for families with children aged 4 and over. The round trip takes around 30 minutes, although a longer hike to the Scheffsnother Alm or further to the Hundshorn is also possible.

Beautiful path, great views and little experiences. Especially on hot sunny days, the path is easy to do thanks to the shady forests and cooling natural pools, even uphill with a child carrier. Maybe think about water shoes, because it can be very slippery in the waterfalls. And remember that in summer the last descent into the valley with the Almbahn is at 4:15 p.m., so start early enough if you want to have enough time at the top.

The Fischbachfall is an impressive waterfall near Ruhpolding or Heutal (Austrian side). It is embedded in beautiful nature and is not far from the Heutal ski area. I set off from the German side, Holzknechtmuseum Ruhpolding. The sight of this natural spectacle along the small stream is really superlative! 🌊💧 Caution ⚠ ! If someone wants to go down to the Fischbachfall, it is only recommended with safety in mind.. If you like hiking, there are also some beautiful hikes and circular trails in the area around the Fischbachfall. Perhaps you would like to plan your own tour and explore nature?

If you are nearby you should definitely take a detour into the gorge, it is worth it

Not easy to walk, but worth the effort. Children between the ages of seven and twelve will have fun. Tip: take swimming trunks and towels for the children.
