The Wimbach Castle is located in the Wimbachgries at an altitude of 937 meters. It is the former hunting lodge of Prince Regent Luitpold. Today you can rest here on your hike and treat yourself to delicious food and cool drinks. The hut is open from the beginning of May to the end of October. We took a break today on our way back from the Blaueishütte, and I highly recommend stopping there. Delicious food and incredibly friendly and attentive service. If the journey weren't so long for us, we'd definitely come more often. 🥇

I like it here because it's not that big, the operators are very friendly and accommodating and because you have a beautiful view. But as I said, I think it's pleasant that it's not a huge hut but small and nice 😇

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, the cake is very good.

The hosted Wimbachgrieshütte is located in impressive surroundings in the rear Wimbachtal. The small hut is open from mid-May to early October and serves as a base for various hikes. The Wimbach Castle is a former hunting lodge of the Bavarian kings. Beautifully located, you can either eat something hearty or simply enjoy homemade cakes.

In 1784, the Wimbach Castle was built by Joseph Conrad von Schroffenberg, the last prince-provost of Berchtesgaden. From 1810 onwards, it was used as a hunting lodge by the new rulers, the Wittelsbachs. King Max II and Prince Regent Luitpold in particular valued the Wimbach Valley as a hunting ground and held court hunts here. From May 2019, Petra Palt and Alexander Unger will take over the lease of the Wimbach Castle.
