The Troppberg is a 542 m high mountain in the northern Vienna Woods. It is located in the Lower Austrian market towns of Gablitz and Tullnerbach. If you are nearby, you should definitely climb up to the lookout to enjoy the fantastic panoramic view. The lookout is not only a viewing point, but also an important radio facility used by various organizations. Very high observation tower with a beautiful view that you should definitely visit. There is also a lower control room from the 19th century, where you can shelter in a small room at the top when it rains. The control room on the other side, from the 1960s, has already been demolished. All that remains here is the base as a witness that it once existed.

If you ask the Viennese about the highest elevation in Vienna, many answer with "the Kahlenberg". No, it's not like that! Not the Kahlenberg with an altitude of 484 meters is the highest point in the city of Vienna, but the Hermannskogel. It towers 58 m above the Kahlenberg and is 542 meters above sea level! On the Hermannskogel there is a rather unknown vantage point, but on closer inspection it is very impressively enthroned on the summit of the Hermannskogel. It's the Habsburg Warden. It was built in the form of a medieval defense tower in 1888 and, including the spire, rises 27 meters into the sky. If you stand in front of her and look up at her, you feel transported to the Middle Ages for a moment. On the viewing platform of the round tower at 16.7 meters is the fundamental point of the Austrian national survey, which was determined in 1892 by the Imperial and Royal Military Geographical Institute.

The control room is named after the location and is a combination of an observation tower and a radio station. The latter is used by the fire brigade, Red Cross, ÖAMTC and ÖBB. It is a joint project of the three neighboring communities of Gablitz, Purkersdorf and Tullnerbach and is freely accessible all year round.

A visit is actually "a must" when you are in the area. Top highlight! You have the choice between stone and steel. However, the metal tower is very airy, so you should have a head for heights.
