The lake was formed during the Ice Age, when the ice masses of the Stillach Glacier towered 700 to 800 m above its present location.

one of the most beautiful mountain lakes I know. Picturesque location with the ski flying hill in the background. I could stay here all day. Due to the existing seaside resort including gastronomy, the lake is also an ideal destination for families on warm summer days. It is also the ideal starting point for great hikes to the Söllereck
