The conditions for a day of snowshoeing in Altaussee are quickly created: simply ask at the reception of the AlpenParks Hagan Lodge Altaussee about rental equipment for snowshoeing. What you should bring with you: sturdy high hiking boots (not ski boots), appropriate hiking clothing, gloves, hat, sunglasses, small backpack with water bottle.

Dachstein coming from the south is quite a challenge. At least 800 meters of often vertical rock face are very impressive. The shoulder climb is underestimated by many tourists. For me, the first 30 meters or so of the start is more of a "C". And you think the KS is short. Wrong. The climb overcomes the summit structure in several stages and is quite long. But it is really 🥰if the weather is right. To descend, I took the Randkluftsteig to the glacier. It is anything but trivial at the bottom because there is no rope for the last 20 meters. But there are steel pins and a few clamps. You can only be properly secured with a rope partner. OK, it might be a B but be careful‼️. The Randkluft itself can also be bad. So for this variant, crampons, a partner and a short rope are advantageous. It took me a total of 4 hours and I didn't think I was slow.

One of the best vantage points of the Hoher Dachstein and the Dachstein south face

The lookout tower at the summit cross (1,582 m) offers a fabulous all-round view of the Dachstein area, the Schladminger Tauern, the Ennstal, the Hochkönig mountains and the Grossglockner. The summit of the Rittisberg is an easily accessible destination for everyone. Pushchairs can also be easily pushed along this hiking trail.

I parked my car down by the Aussee at 3:00 a.m. and climbed through the night to the summit. I arrived at the summit cross at 5:45 a.m. The path, which is quite steep in places, requires a lot of strength, but every step was worth it when I enjoyed my coffee and breakfast at the top while watching the sunrise.
