Hiking tour to the Graualm, July 15, 2024 A hike from the Brandhof to the Graualm in the Hochschwab region with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. Parking is available when coming from Mariazell on the left side of the road, opposite the entrance to the Brandhof. Do not park directly at Brandhof Castle (private property)! We are allowed to start our hike at Brandhof Castle (1080 m elevation). (Brandhof Castle was built between 1822 and 1828 by Archduke Johann. He was married to Anna Plochl, the daughter of the Imperial and Royal Postmaster, in the chapel built there in 1829.) We now follow trail number 853. Here we hike along forest roads (shortcuts through the forest are available for physically fit hikers) to the Leitenalm pasture and continue to the now-closed alpine hut on the Graualm. (1503m elevation) It's always a constant challenge to capture the magnificent diversity of flora and fauna on camera! Shortly before reaching the Graualm, we were able to observe a small group of chamois (colloquially known as Gams) merrily making mischief at the foothills of the Aflenzer Staritzen! What great climbers and mountaineers these animals are! In the last third of the trail, a small fountain with wonderfully fresh spring water awaits, where you can truly refresh yourself!!! It's no comparison to the water quality at home; it comes from God's glorious creation! We take the same route back. Please note: The Graualm is now closed, and there's no longer any opportunity to stop for refreshments or take a seat there because everything has been blocked off! Why is that??? A truly impressive tour in God's great picture book of HIS creation. The entire surroundings, the view, the alpine pastures are simply magnificent! On the eastern side of the Hochschwab massif with magnificent views of the surrounding peaks! And at the end, you ask me, "How did it go?" Simply good, simply Styrian!!!!! But all of this is only possible with God's help and HIS blessing!

May 25, 2024: We wanted to climb the Fölzstein today. We discovered the circular hiking trail via the Stoamandlweg. As an inexperienced hiker, this path is very dangerous. There are always exposed rocks to pass. Not to mention that the path is not signposted. We then used the path from the Fölzkogel to the Grasserhütte as a descent, which had slipped over the winter. It was quite difficult to find an alternative path due to the slope. We had to keep passing snow fields. The terrain was sloping in this area. I wouldn't do this hike again at the moment. A very high level of sure-footedness is required.

Very wind and weather prone summit. If you can see it clear of clouds, you shouldn't wait too long before climbing, because an hour later it can be overcast again! ;-) I know people who have been to the Schiestlhaus around 30 times (around 20 minutes below the summit), but only 3 times to the summit because the rest of the time it was shrouded in clouds or fog. Aja and warm clothes are also recommended - the wind makes the temperatures feel a lot cooler here! ;-)
