High up in the rock face on the western side of the Maderkopf, the water emerges from the limestone as an overflow spring and plunges into the depths in several cascades. The impressive waterfall is named after General Hilda, a front-line commander in World War I. Its catchment area extends into the basin of the Upper Wolayer Alm. Lake Wolayer also drains underground into this system.

Short and very quiet beautiful

You can reach the Bruggen waterfall in the Obergailer valley via a hiking trail or a climbing route. It is definitely worth it to see how the Obergailer stream plunges so impressively into the depths.

A refreshing hiking destination on hot summer days (of which there will be more and more now...). The length and elevation are easy, but the nature of the path - especially the last section before the waterfall - is consistently challenging. Sure-footedness and good footwear are definitely good qualities to have. At the moment, "via ferrata" means that a few footholds in the rock make the ascent easier; there is no safety rope, so a via ferrata set is obsolete and, in my opinion, not necessary. But you can do a bit of scrambling. Probably possible for children accompanied, and perhaps also for strong dogs with an affinity for mountains; we didn't take our dog with us, and that was a good thing.

Wonderful view from above and the waterfall is unique, the climb is definitely worth it.
