A small lake nestled in a gentle, green landscape. Numerous water lilies bloom on the water, their white and pink blossoms rising like tiny stars from the green foliage. Every now and then, a bird flits across the water, while dragonflies dance in the warm breeze—a place where you can lose track of time and linger in the beauty of nature.

In the course of the Palatinate Forest Path, the pebble pond is the largest body of water on the stage between Heltersberg and Johanniskreuz. The pond is fed by a small spring.

Information on the forestry office board: “As an artesian (ascending) spring, the Burgalb rises in the pond of the same name and flows at the outlet into one half of a baroque fountain trough from the garden of Trippstadt Castle. After one kilometer the Burgalb unites with the Pferdesbach to form the Schwarzbach, which flows into the Blies behind Zweibrücken, additionally fed by the Hornbach.” Since the Burgalb is the main source stream of the Schwarzbach, the Burgalb source is also considered a Schwarzbach source. In the summer of 2022, the Burgalbweiher was so dry that the overflow into the baroque fountain trough no longer worked.

The ice pond on the Pirmasenser Felsenwald is on one of the best hiking trails or tours. It is wonderful to rest there and let your gaze slide over the pond.

The Burgalb goes a little further downhill into the Schwarzbach. The small stream gives you a nice opportunity to roll down the river on relaxed forest paths in the western Palatinate Forest. Only in Waldfischbach-Burgalben does the landscape clear and you drive out of the whale. If you want, you can follow the Schwarzbach from here to the Bliestal.
