Nikolaus Bernett (born April 26, 1882 in Dreiselen, † August 11, 1969 in Oldenburg) was a German teacher, gymnastics and sports leader. After attending the Evangelical Teachers' College in Oldenburg (1897–1901), Bernett initially worked as a primary school teacher in Osternburg-Tweelbäke. He did his military service in the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment 91. When the First World War broke out, he joined the 1st Battalion of the Reserve Infantry Regiment 74 in Oldenburg and was promoted to lieutenant in the Landwehr. In 1915 in France he was shot in the right leg. Due to his wound, Bernett was unfit for military service and returned to Oldenburg, where he continued to work as a teacher. From 1921 to 1932 he also worked at the teachers' seminar and the pedagogical course. In 1915 Bernett married in the Holy Trinity Church in Easterburg. In 1903 he joined the Oldenburg Gymnastics Association and became head gymnastics officer in 1912.

The Oldenburg bascule railway bridge crosses the Hunte, which is 60 meters wide. It is a listed building. The bridge serves the two railway lines Oldenburg – Bremen and Oldenburg – Osnabrück. It was built between 1946 and 1954 near the Oldenburg railway water tower as a replacement for the swing bridge from 1866, which was destroyed in 1945. It is for train traffic (double-track, with overhead lines since electrification in 1982) as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
