With 232 hectares of vineyards (2017), Sommerach is one of the larger wine-growing communities in the Franconian wine-growing region. With the Sommeracher Katzenkopf, the community has one of the most famous vineyards in Franconia.

Sommerach is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen and a member of the Volkach administrative community. Sommerach's history is closely linked to the Benedictine monastery in Münsterschwarzach, which ruled the town for a long time. In addition, several other noble families, including the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach, were wealthy here. Sommerach has a partially still existing town wall with two intact gates. The center of the town is the Catholic Eucharius Church.
