The city fortifications of Lübben were probably built in the early 14th century and replaced an older palisade. The rising masonry consists of two brick shells with mortar filling and stands on a foundation of field and bog iron blocks. This section of wall secured the old town to the west and connected to the Luckau Gate. In addition to the remains of the city wall, the two defense towers - the so-called Trutzer - and the northern corner tower - the so-called witches' tower have been preserved and renovated. The medieval fortification had two gates, the Luckau Jor in the west and the Gubener or Spreetor in the east.
