Riding around the chapel is not permitted. Dismount briefly, push your bike through, and enjoy the special atmosphere.

The beer garden with a very large play park is really nice. To clarify: it is not a beer garden in the classic sense, i.e. with chestnuts, draft beer, etc. But the people there are friendly, the newly built cycle path down to Egglkofen is beautiful, so everything is recommendable.

The airfield is high above Egglkofen.

The Virgin Mary, who is depicted and venerated here, is that of Lourdes. This well-known Marian pilgrimage site is located in the French Pyrenees and is visited by a large number of people every year, including many sick people who are hoping for a cure. The devotional image of Our Lady has become widespread - not only in France - Lourdes chapels and graves were built by believers everywhere. The ecclesiastical commemoration day "Our Lady in Lourdes" is on February 11th, this is the anniversary of the apparition of Mary (1858), when Our Lady appeared to 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in a rock grotto not far from Lourdes. Bernadette later became a nun and died at the age of only 35. On December 8th (the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary) in 1933, she was canonized by Pope Pius XI. The day of remembrance of the Lourdes Madonna is also World Day of the Sick.

Don't ignore this detour

This section of the cycle path was under construction for what felt like an eternity and was finally finished in 2021. It does not run strictly parallel to the main road, like other cycle paths, but is adapted to the terrain. It is therefore constantly up and down, to the left and right and around houses, while the main road next to it runs straight. That certainly makes sense and was probably cheaper too, it feels like a suspension bridge, a seesaw and a loop are still missing. A really great path, with the main road, cycle path and farm track sometimes right next to each other. The asphalt area is very fine and on inclines there are even markings for oncoming traffic.
