The Dresden Frauenkirche, a magnificent baroque building, dominates the cityscape of Dresden with its imposing stone dome - the largest north of the Alps. This architectural jewel also stands as a profound symbol of historical events. Destroyed in the Second World War, it remained in ruins for decades until it was finally faithfully rebuilt from its own remains. Of the millions of stones used, approximately 3800 original stones were reused. Today, the Frauenkirche is more than ever a symbol of peace and reconciliation. As a symbol of the city, it shines again in all its grandeur and reminds us of the indefatigable possibility of restoration and hope.

From the castle there is a beautiful climb up the vineyard and you walk directly between the 🍇 vines. From the top you have a wonderful view 🤩.

The medieval Tharandt Castle is located on a mountain spur high above Tharandt. It is only preserved in ruins and above all offers a wonderful view of the city of Tharandt.

The castle was built at the beginning of the 13th century at the behest of Margrave Dietrich von Meißen to protect himself against the neighboring burgraves of Dohna. Already in 1224 it burned down during a campaign, but was rebuilt in 1240-1256. At the end of the 14th century, the castle was fortified in such a way that it was considered one of the strongest in the country. The burgraves of Dohna, who were very powerful in the border region (but also acted as robber barons), lost all of their importance in the course of the Dohna feud (1385-1402), so that Tharandt Castle also lost its defensive function. It was fought over during the Hussite invasion of 1429 and, due to its strength, served as a storehouse for the elector's documents and valuables. From 1476 Duchess Sidonie temporarily stayed at the castle. She was the daughter of the Bohemian King George of Podebrady and was married to the Saxon Duke Albrecht to seal the Treaty of Eger, which regulated the Saxon-Bohemian border that is still valid today. From 1500 she lived there permanently until her death in 1510. After that, the castle was no longer inhabited and was gradually dismantled. The neighboring mountain church was built on part of the castle complex and from castle materials in 1626-1629. From the end of the 18th century, the castle ruins came back into consciousness in the course of the castle romanticism and were processed by many romantic painters and draftsmen.

Wackerbarth Castle has a very eventful history and has been rebuilt several times. It was originally built by Field Marshal General and Imperial Count August Christoph von Wackerbarth as the retirement home "Wackerbarths Ruh". After his death his stepson inherited it, who in turn decreed that it should be auctioned for the benefit of Dresden widows and orphans after his death. After that, the owners changed frequently. At times it became an educational institution for boys, a sanatorium for the mentally ill, accommodation for the Marshal of the Soviet Union Konew, a post office of the Red Army or a school with boarding school for children who had fled from Greece in the early GDR times. It was not until 1952 that it became a winery again and in 1992 it became the property of the Free State of Saxony. It has been in the sole ownership of the Saxon Aufbaubank since 1999. In the meantime, the winery, consisting of the historical facility and the modern new building for the wine and sparkling wine factory, is also open to visitors. The in-house products can be tasted and bought under the motto “In the realm of the senses”. The estate's own restaurant is housed in the listed farm building and can be rented for celebrations.

Tharandt Castle is located on a steep rock spur above the Schoitzbach river.
