12월 18, 2023, Church of St. Anna (Gaas)
Saint Anne is the mother of the Blessed Mother Mary, who is not attested in the biblical texts, i.e. the grandmother of Jesus Christ. However, it is mentioned in apocryphal (i.e. not included in the canon of the Bible) writings, for example in the so-called “Protoevangelium of James”. There is no historically reliable information about Anna's life, but there are numerous traditional stories, which are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. In the church calendar, Saint Anna's memorial day - together with her husband Joachim - is on July 26th.

This small church is dedicated to Saint Joseph (Joseph), the nurturing father of Jesus Christ. Like Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, he is a man on the threshold from the Old to the New Testament. Joseph came from the House of David, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. He was a carpenter by profession and the fiancé of the Blessed Mother Mary. Saint Joseph's memorial day in the saints' calendar is March 19th, and the church also celebrates the feast of "Joseph the Worker" on May 1st.

A lattice fence surrounds this small sacred monument, which is visible to passers-by on the side of the road in Gaas. The cross made of stone rests on a base, in the niche of which there is a relief depicting a saint, surrounded on each side by a pilaster. Above this rises the actual cross with the body of the crucified Christ.

Discovered on my “vineyard hike”. The Winten mountain chapel. A quaint, old building and a really nice place to relax. Right next to it there is a bench with a magnificent view to the north-east-south. From the Geschriftenstein all the way down to the Pinkatal. Splendid.
