The mill was named "Schietsjampettermolen" (Shooting Jampetter Mill) after an incident in 1981: a policeman fired his service weapon to prevent the mill from being transported from Houthave to Wannegem-Lede. A bullet struck the mill casing, but the move went ahead anyway. The current mill originates from Houtave in West Flanders, hence the name "Houtave Mill." It stood on the north side of the Oostendse Steenweg.

The Scheldt Valley has been an official national park since 2023 and stretches along the Scheldt estuary between Gentbrugge and Antwerp. Here, freshwater and saltwater meet, creating a unique tidal landscape full of mudflats, salt marshes, and unique plants. Thanks to cleaner water, animals like the otter and the beaver are returning.
