The Goethefelsen in the Bodetal got its name on the occasion of the 200th birthday of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in August 1949. He is said to have stayed at that granite rock in September 1783 and rested on the Goethestein.

With the remains of a former castle complex, the Witches' Ring with its sculptures and the Walpurgis Hall, the Witches' Dance Place is also a uniquely mystical place on the remaining days of the year. Other attractions at the Hexentanzplatz include the Harzer Bergtheater, the Harzbob and the Thale Zoo. No less legendary, the Roßtrappe, a 403 meter high granite rock, rises from the Bodetal above the left bank of the Bode. There are numerous legends surrounding the rock, which is considered one of the greatest rock formations north of the Alps, due to a depression that resembles a footprint. This story is vividly told in the legend pavilion high up on the Roßtrappe. The Bodetal has another highlight with the Thale Adventure World cable cars. It is the starting point of the cable car to the Hexentanzplatz and the chair lift to the Roßtrappe and offers a wide range of fun and leisure activities for young and old with various fun parks, a show hydroelectric power station, a downhill route and the Hexenkessel. Unfortunately always very well attended, especially when there is another bus in the parking lot. Early in the morning before 9am or later in the afternoon/evening when the crowds have cleared, you'll have this magnificent vantage point almost to yourself and take in the stunning views
