Anyone cycling through Striesow should stop briefly at the large oak tree with its wooden bell tower – not only for the prospect of a shady rest, but also for the small piece of history that becomes apparent here. The freestanding wooden bell tower looks almost like an oversized birdhouse, but sits firmly on a massive foundation – built to be heard.

With its tall, slender tower, the village church of Dissen is visible from afar – a striking landmark in the vast Lusatian landscape. Those coming from the local history museum will find it directly opposite, and it's worth pausing for a moment. The Protestant church was built in its current form at the end of the 19th century, but the half-timbering on the nave side is reminiscent of earlier construction phases. The contrast of red brick, black beams, and white window frames is almost picturesque – a typical example of Brandenburg brick architecture with a local influence. The tower, with its pointed spire and clock, gives the church an almost urban feel – one senses that Dissen was once a regionally important town. The interior of the church is simple but welcoming. If you're lucky and happen by at the right time, you can take a look inside – especially worthwhile during one of the concerts or community events.

The cycle path on the northern shore of the emerging Cottbus Baltic Sea runs directly along the edge of the former open-cast mine. What today still looks like a construction site – sand, rubble, and a barrier fence – already gives an idea of the lake's future size. Especially on clear days, a wide view opens up across the water to the horizon. Wind turbines spin in the distance, the light plays on the still narrow expanse of water – a place between incompleteness and anticipation. The path itself is well-paved, mostly flat, but lacks any significant infrastructure: no bench, no kiosk, no shade. If you want to take a break here, it's best to do so standing up – but with a great view. Conclusion: Not yet a classic lake excursion – but an exciting stage for anyone who wants to see change as it happens. Ideal for a short pause for reflection on the edge of the future.
