10월 21, 2024, View of Poggio Lecceta
Poggio Lecceta, 457 meters above sea level, is the highest peak of the Livorno Hills and is divided between the municipalities of Livorno and Collesalvetti. The summit is occupied by a radar station, whose radome can be seen from a great distance. On the slopes of the hill is the Livorno hamlet of Valle Benedetta (364 m), known for being the site of numerous excursions by the C.A.I. of Livorno. Among the numerous streams that have their sources in Poggio Lecceta are the Rio Maggiore and the Torrente Ugione, which are among the longest that descend from the Livorno Hills. (from Wikipedia) Access to the Radar area is via a short, but very steep climb along Via del Radar; However, since it is a military structure that has the purpose of providing meteorological information, as well as ensuring air traffic control and surveillance of maritime navigation, access to the structure is prohibited to unauthorized persons.

Caribbean feeling thanks to the fine white sand. Created by the waste water from a soda factory behind it.

At the top of the Benedetta Valley, probably once inhabited (according to the archaeological finds discovered) but already deserted and inhospitable in the 1600s, Colombino Bassi from Livorno, a Vallombrosian monk, wanted to found a monastery with an adjoining church dedicated to San Giovanni Gualberto, founder of the Vallombrosan Congregation. Grand Duke Cosimo III gave his authorization, purchased the land and had it deforested; then he started the works which, based on a project by Lorenzi from Livorno, took place in the last decade of the 17th century; the church was consecrated in 1717 by Colombino Bassi himself and later entrusted to the Benedictine monks (from whose presence the name of the Benedetta Valley derives). A good part of the expenses for the construction of the complex were supported by Giovanni Antonio Huigens (or Huygens), a wealthy merchant from Hamburg who lived in a beautiful villa located just upstream and who even oversaw the construction of the road that connected the Benedetta valley in Livorno. He is also remembered in the city by the notable Huigens palace, in via Borra, the street that housed most of the homes of the local eighteenth-century merchant aristocracy. The exterior of the church, which can be reached via a scenic grassy staircase, was remodeled after the damage caused by earthquakes and neglect and is characterized by two square lateral bell towers. The interior, in clear baroque style, has a beautiful high altar with an eighteenth-century wooden crucifix and along the side walls two large canvases from the same period dedicated to San Felice martyr and the Adoration of the Magi, works by Pandolfo Tibi, a painting of the Madonna of Montenero and the child crowned with silver, two statues donated by Huigens and various relics. The church also hosts, with a curious contrasting effect, numerous works by twentieth-century artists, including the "Madonna del Mare" by Osvaldo Peruzzi.

Gabbro, located between the beaches of the Livorno coast, is a hamlet of Rosignano Marittimo in the province of Livorno. This area, located about 200 meters above sea level on the hills between the Via Aurelia and the Via Emilia, is crossed by a road that follows an ancient path from Vada to Portus Pisanus. The history of this area has its roots in ancient times with Etruscan and Roman settlements, watermills, medieval windmills and eighteenth-century villas. The town is known for gabbro, a volcanic rock that takes its name from this location.

A small hamlet of Rosignano Marittimo, Polveroni is located at the intersection between the road of the same name coming from the Spiagge Bianche and the Via per Rosignano coming from Vada, which runs quietly among wide cereal fields, parallel to the much busier former SS 1 Aurelia.

9월 9, 2023, Villa (di) Limone, o Villa Canaccini
Elegant villa with a large estate, is located in via di Limoncino 21, in a panoramic position on the western slopes of the Livornesi Mountains. The name, like that of the nearby Limoncino area, has nothing to do with the presence of citrus fruits, but rather should be related to the term "silt" due to the muddy nature of the spring waters in the area. It is also known as Villa Canaccini, from the name of the last owners of the 20th century, but a settlement in this area, particularly rich in water sources, is documented already before the year 1000. Surrounded by a high wall, the building which appears more similar to a fortress than a villa, is characterized by a powerful and severe architecture, with an arched portico and a development on two levels: the upper one intended for housing and the lower one to agricultural tools; it also includes the remains of a medieval parish church dedicated to Saints Andrew and John, then suppressed in 1277 and later replaced by a small chapel which is still visible today. In the 19th century it belonged to the Russian prince Demidoff and then to the Bartolommei family and hosted, in addition to the poet Angelica Palli-Bartolommei, also the future Napoleon III.
