Even in bad weather or under dark clouds, the trip up is worthwhile. The cable car takes you up to 1,900 meters. By the time we reached the top, the clouds had almost disappeared due to the wind.

This is not a route for everyone. Much of the downhill trail is very steep, poorly marked, and very narrow.

From the mountain station you can take beautiful hikes to various craters.

Etna is the largest volcano in Europe and is still active today, making it difficult to determine its height exactly as it often changes. It is currently indicated at approximately 3,357 meters altitude. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2013. Since ancient times, various mythological meanings have been attributed to the volcano. For example, it was believed to be a workplace of the Cyclopes, who helped the god Hephaestus with his ironworking. Hephaestus himself was considered the ugliest of all the gods, and whenever he suspected betrayal on the part of his wife Aphrodite, he would set his forge on fire so intensely that the volcano would erupt. In the Middle Ages, the volcano was considered a place of damnation. If you are climbing up here without a guide, don't get too close as the fumes are toxic. The views from the top are magnificent if the day is clear, but seeing the craters themselves is incredible. The terrain along the volcano can be technical for runners, but in general there are always less technical options.
