GRANIERI: A dip in time between history and wine A journey into the Sicilian past - During a bike trip with a friend, I had the pleasure of visiting the Granieri Castle, a real jewel immersed in the Sicilian countryside. Right from the start, crossing the always open gate, we felt transported back in time. The atmosphere you breathe is magical, surrounded by an ancient charm that immediately conquers you. Tradition and innovation - Part of the structure has recently been renovated, a sign of constant attention to the present and the future. However, although further restoration work is necessary, the village retains an authenticity and beauty that make it absolutely worth a visit.

The Reserve is open to the public all year round, every day (8.30am - 1.30pm and 2.30pm - 5.30pm)

Niscemi, located in the free municipal consortium of Caltanissetta in Sicily, is a municipality rich in history with traces of human settlements dating back to the Neolithic. Characterized by a fascinating panorama of the Gela plain and the Maroglio river, its historic center dates back to the 17th century, with Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III which houses the Church of Santa Maria d'Itria and the Church of Addolorata, and the suggestive Terrace of Lookout offering magnificent views of the region.

Mazzarino, a small Sicilian town, rises on the plateaus of the Erei mountains, in the south-eastern area of the Nissena province, near the Gela plain. The town is known for its castle, 'U Cannuni, a 12th century fortress of Norman origin. Once the residence of the counts of Mazarin, the castle preserves a cylindrical tower and remains of walls, witnesses of its ancient grandeur and importance.

Granieri is a small hamlet of Caltagirone, located 13.3 km from the centre. Located in an agricultural production area, nearby is the Bosco di Santo Pietro oriented nature reserve. The area includes several districts and boasts a historical heritage such as the Castello di Granieri or Masseria Silvestri, an imposing structure from 1885.

The Biviere di Gela Nature Reserve, located in the municipality of Gela, Sicily, was established in 1997. Historically mentioned in Pliny the Elder's "Naturalis Historia," it was a brackish marshland transformed into a freshwater lake in the 17th century. It is a wetland of international importance and an important stopover for migratory birds, with over 200 avifauna species. The reserve is home to endemic flora and has a visitor center, trails, and observation huts.

For those wishing to visit it; unfortunately I often see the gate closed, better call some information office. Or secondary entrance (missing piece of network) next to the gate open 24h / 24 😉
