Great views of Lake Brienz and the Bernese Alps from the paths to the Brienzer Grat ridge.

A bit technical in autumn, at least doable for me in early November without special equipment.

Unique! Not recommended on nice weekends because there are too many hikers around.

Challenging and beautiful! Not a walk in the park - good shoes and a sure-footedness are a minimum requirement. Be careful, the paths can be narrow with steep slopes on both sides. Level T3.

A wonderful view of the panorama around Lake Brienz! But you have to earn this view. The climb is demanding, at times at level T3. In addition, the entire tour is peppered with countless steps, none of which are the same as the previous ones. Some of them are very high and require strength to climb up. The tour up this wonderful ridge should not be underestimated. Good shoes and surefootedness are a must. You should also not be afraid of heights and be considerate of other hikers on the sometimes very narrow path. Crossing is not always easy, and it is often very steep - on both sides of the ridge.

The Augstmatthorn is an impressive mountain in the Bernese Oberland, known for its breathtaking views and rich wildlife. At 2,137 meters high, the summit offers spectacular views of Lake Brienz, the surrounding Alps and, in clear weather, even as far as the Jura. The hike to the Augstmatthorn often starts in Habkern or Lombachalp and leads along well-marked paths through a varied landscape. The trail is challenging and requires surefootedness, especially on steep and rocky terrain. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with wide panoramic views and the opportunity to spot ibexes and other alpine animals.
