A popular cycling pass. From the southwest side, it's quite steep in places. But the scenery is beautiful and the ride is enjoyable. Highly recommended!

3월 27, 2025, Pragel Pass Ascent from Muotathal
Since the Pragel Pass is closed to motorized traffic on weekends, it's perfect for a ride amidst the tranquility and beauty of nature. The climb from the Schwyz side is quite challenging right away, with the first few kilometers being particularly steep. Then, towards the top, it levels off somewhat.

Many roads converge in Brunnen, which is beautifully situated on Lake Lucerne, making it a good starting point, rest stop or destination for a tour of Central Switzerland. Important and good to know for cyclists: The well-known Axenstrasse between Brunnen and Altdorf is currently being renovated and is therefore closed to bicycles. However, there is a free shuttle bus that runs between Brunnen and Sisikon. This means that the closed part of the road can still be included in a tour. Town Hall, Schwyz Town Hall. The current town hall was built on the foundations of its predecessor after the village fire of 1642. The historic facade painting by Ferdinand Wagner of Munich was created in 1891 for the 600th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation. The image of the Battle of Morgarten is striking. Schwyz: History in brief The name Schwyz. The name most likely has Germanic roots: The word "sueit" means something like scorch and burn. Schwyz would therefore have been named after a pre-Alemannic clearing. The name Switzerland was derived from the place/canton name Schwyz. Schwyz is a town with market rights and central location function, but without town rights. 15th and 16th centuries. At the end of the 15th century, mercenary activity developed out of both a thirst for adventure and economic hardship. Hundreds of young men went to war under the banners of important Schwyz mercenary leaders. The leaders were also the leading people in the country. They were diplomatically experienced, educated and had money. 18th century. Schwyz must have seemed idyllic to a foreigner at that time. Travel descriptions by J.W. Goethe, for example, bear witness to this. The quality of life for the upper classes was undoubtedly high, but the situation of small farmers and day laborers was very modest. The invasion of the French in 1798 was a catastrophe for Schwyz. Despite brave resistance, the people of Schwyz had to surrender. 19th and 20th centuries. After the creation of the new federal state in 1848, Schwyz changed only hesitantly. Strong village structures and strict moral guidelines were skeptical of innovations from outside: technology and tourism were only slowly accepted. The Catholic church year with its holidays and diverse customs had a decisive influence on life at that time. Text / Source: Erlebnisregion Mythen https://www.erlebnisregion-mythen.ch/de/

Town Hall, Schwyz The striking town hall on Schwyz's main square is known for its impressive, historic façade paintings. The town hall was first documented in 1314. Its rebuilding took place between 1591 and 1593. At that time, the council and court met inside the building. It also housed a treasury, offices, a salt chamber, a dungeon, and a dance hall. On April 20, 1642, a fire broke out on Schwyz's Schmiedgasse. A total of 47 buildings, including the church and town hall, burned down. One year later, construction began on the new town hall. Built on the fire walls, the building was not sturdy enough and had to be rebuilt in 1777. It was supervised by Carlo Andrea Galetti. In 1891, with an eye toward the 600th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation, Commander Adelrich Benziger of Einsiedeln proposed a redesign of the main façade. The artist Ferdinand Wagner was commissioned to create the work. Wagner's works, such as the Battle of Morgarten and Landamman Stauffacher, can still be seen on the town hall facades today. Delightful experience coming from the west side. Almost half of the distance in the double-digit percentage range, between 18 and 22... terrific. A great round trip together with the Klausen Pass.

2월 23, 2023, View of Lake Lauerz
In terms of popularity, Lake Lauerz is somewhat overshadowed by its neighbors Lake Zug and Lake Lucerne. But that does not detract from its beauty. It is framed by high mountains. At its deepest point, it is only 14 meters deep, making it one of the shallowest lakes in the country.
