The river Avonmore is a spirited river, flowing fast, down a wide and rough channel from Lough Dan to the Avonbeg, below Rathdrum. The Avonmore Way is a long distance trail which follows the river's course through these winding river valleys.

Make the short but rewarding climb to the Boot Hill summit, a prominent local peak north of Rathdrum that offers a fantastic 360-degree vista. From the top, you can enjoy sweeping panoramic views that take in the lush Avonmore River Valley and stretch out across the rolling hills of County Wicklow. While it may not be one of the highest mountains, the summit provides a perfect break with a stunning reward.

Nestled above Avonmore Valley, the Avonemore woods around Cronybyrne offer a looped trail through the woodland.

The Avonmore River, known as "An Abhainn Mhór" in Irish, meaning "the big river," originates from Lough Dan in the Wicklow Mountains, west of Roundwood. It flows southward for approximately 30 kilometers, passing through scenic locations such as Annamoe, Laragh, and Rathdrum. The river features the Avonmore Way, a walking trail that follows its path, providing hikers with picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. ​
