St. Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny is one of Ireland's best-preserved medieval cathedrals, dating back to the 13th century. Located on Ireland's Medieval Mile, the cathedral is named after St. Canice, who founded a monastery on the site in the 6th century. It features a stunning Gothic architecture that has been carefully preserved, making it a highlight for history enthusiasts. The Round Tower, which stands beside the cathedral, offers breathtaking views of Kilkenny and is one of only two round towers in Ireland that can be climbed by visitors. The cathedral itself is steeped in history, allowing visitors to walk in the footsteps of both Norman and Gaelic ancestors. The interior holds impressive medieval relics and stained glass windows, making it a must-visit when exploring Kilkenny's rich heritage.

There is a path along the side of the river, from where you have the best view of the bridge.

Two huge fires raged in the church, so today it is difficult to determine exactly when the Cathedral of St. Canice was built. The approximately 30 meter high round tower probably dates from the 6th century and is a remnant of the church that originally stood on this site. The Cathedrale costs admission and the ascent of the tower also costs again. There is a combination ticket. Admission is paid directly in the church, at the cash desk. I found the price of 6 € just for the church (without the tower) quite expensive and I'm not in. But everyone can decide for themselves. Here the link: https://www.stcanicescathedral.ie/

This is a stunning cathedral with its round tower with commanding views. Do visit the tower, a long ladder climb though so careful if you have a dodgy ticker...
