Autumn has to be one of the best seasons to visit 🍁 🍂

On a practical note, it's one of the few bridges over the river in this area so it's likely a waypoint. That said, it's worth a pause to look upstream and downstream and take the obligatory photo. If you're naughty, there's a jail built into the bridge underneath.

There's an old prison built into the bridge base on the east side.

Closed for refurbishment until February 2024.

Fiddler's Path is named after a local fiddler who used to compose tunes while sitting on the river bank. Although, the actual spot is on the opposite bank from here [which you pass on the return journey], I think this section is the best with the more scenic views of the River Tay

A lovely town along the River Tay, Dunkeld is a wonderfully picturesque town in Perthshire. The town centre feels like a step into history, albeit with delicious modern bakeries, cafés, restaurants, and independent shops.

Dunkeld Bridge was built by Thomas Telford in 1809 and was the main road north to Inverness until the A9 was built in 1977. Today, it provides excellent views up and down the River Tay.

There's a helpful bike shop in the village.

The route over the stone bridge to the paths on the west side of the River Braan is now open.

Ossian's Hall of Mirrors is now open again.

A scenic waypoint within The Hermitage overlooks the waterfall/rapids on the River Braan.

Designed as an exciting pleasure walk in the 18th century by the Dukes of Atholl this stretch of river walk with follies, waterfalls, caves and paths is a landscaped wilderness. It's an interesting run, on good trails but with great views and lots of interesting places to stop for a break. It's now managed by the National Trust for Scotland.

After many of its predecessors were washed away when the river was high, Scottish engineer Thomas Telford was commissioned to build a sturdier version in the early 1800s. Construction of the present bridge was completed in 1809. From an initial budget of £15,000, the final bill for the build was £40,000. A toll was levied on drivers to pay for the difference; however, this was unpopular and resulted in the toll gates being repeatedly thrown into the river. The town jail was once located under the bridge, and the door to the old jail is still visible today.

Worth visiting the bridge at Dunkeld

Beautiful bridge but if you are on it and were to stop and take in the views bear in mind that the pathway is very small and can get ultra busy in the summer with tourists. Nice views of the river though.
