Known locally as La’al Ratty, The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is a narrow gauge steam railway linking the coastal village of Ravenglass to the Lake District National Park. La’al Ratty is 'Little Railway' in the local Cumbrian dialect. A bridleway runs alongside the tracks so if you are lucky you might see, smell and hear a train chug by. This makes it an especially good place to bring young bikers who will no doubt love the spectacle and easy going terrain. A popular MTB route is to catch La’al Ratty from Ravenglass to Dalegarth and ride back along the Eskdale Trail.

To the west of the cute packhorse bridge over the River Esk is an excellent wild swimming spot. It is not recommended to jump from the rocks or the bridge as the water levels can change. Ease yourself in more gently for a refreshing dip.
