From Bath to here on a road bike with 25mm is doable but take it easy, further on, its a little rougher and 35mm would be better. here is a good stop of lunch or a drink

Dundas Aqueduct carries the Kennet & Avon canal over the river Avon and the railway. It was opened in 1805 and designed by famous architect John Rennie. The tow path between Bradford on Avon and Bath runs along the south side. To the north you can also cross the aqueduct to access the trails up through the woods to Conkwell or north along the river. There is often a boat that sells ice cream and cold drinks, or you can leave the canal and follow the signed trail to the Angel Fish cafe where there are toilets. You can often fill water from the boaters tap by the building and crane at the far side of the marina.

Hartley Farm shop and café is a great spot to stop on a ride. The farm shop sells all the snacks you may need and the café has a good choice of cakes, breakfast, and lunch food including a new pizza oven. Plenty of space indoors and outside including a sheltered outside area. Bike racks and toilets. Open Mon to Sat 9:00 - 17:30 and Sun 9:00 - 16:00.

The initial gradient is around 8%, this increases to 12% over a distance of 400 meters near the top.

The Dundas Aqueduct carries canal boats over the River Avon, crossing the Somerset / Wiltshire county border. The Kennet and Avon Canal passes over the aqueduct. Designed by engineer John Rennie, the aqueduct was opened in 1805. It's named after Charles Dundas, a politician who was the first chairman of the Kennet and Avon Canal Company. The aqueduct is Grade I listed. In 1951, it became the first canal structure to be listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

This large basin sits next to the incredible Dundas Aqueduct and often has moored canal boats present. The aqueduct links the Kennet and Avon Canal with the mostly dried Somerset Coal Canal, the latter of which now only has a short operational section that mainly involves the basin. There's a cafe here as well as bike hire if you want to cycle further afield along the canals.

Great section to link up to the DH’s at Conkwell. Nice, fast and fun in the dry. Make sure you enter at speed and select the right low gear for the first climb that is pretty techy with some big roots. Like Conkwell, horrible mud in the winter that makes descending feel like riding up hill, and riding up hill feel tough! The kinda place where only a true manly Michelin will suffice and not a poncy cush-cored DHR 😂

Great spot! Who needs Bike Park Wales when you’ve got here! Awesome steep, techy and jumpy trails. Best accessed with someone with knowledge or getting off and looking around. Wouldn’t recommend riding when it’s super muddy as the mud clogs up tires and is un-rideable + will ruin for others. Have also been told it’s privately owned and the owner very kindly permits riders to use, but does not want people riding or building on the left side (as you look from the road), so definitely best to avoid this section.

Variety of riding in this area. The road sectiin is quiet and has good alternative views of the river whilst there are also mtb trails for different l3vels

Tough on a MTB

Dundas aqueduct is where the Avon and Kennet canal passes over the river Avon and railway line. It forms part of the Avon and Kennet canal path cycle route that is a shared path for cyclists, runners and walkers. At the Aqueduct as well as admiring the Aqueduct (it's a scheduled ancient monument!) you can watch the boats passing through or visit The Angel Fish cafe if you need a bite to eat and drink. There are also public toilets here just look out for the signs. If you intend to start your journey here then there is a pay and display car park, just don't arrive too late on a sunny weekend as it soon fills up. If you need a dip to cool down or fancy a swim then aviod the canal and head down to the river Avon underneath the Aqueduct. The river can be assessed from a pontoon if you follow the footpaths to the East side of the river. Many people use this point for dipping, swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking and more! Just be mindful that the water can be deep and fast flowing at this point after heavy or prolonged rainfall.
