Lovely cafe serving excellent coffee, cakes and sausage rolls

The Barn is a really nice little cafe with a great vibe about it. There's seating inside about 8 or so along the window and a few tables. The wood fire makes for a cozy feel. There are several tables outside on a nice day. The cafe serves coffee and soft drinks, cakes and a few savouries like bacon sandwiches and sausage rolls.

When the sign says road closed due to flood, it is! Don't try and ride through like me.

Situated at the top of a hill on the Cotswold escarpment, the pretty town of Minchinhampton is an ancient market town and a good stop-off for a mid-ride coffee. Minchinhampton Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and looked after by the National Trust - the summer wildflowers and butterflies are incredible.

Oaksey is a pretty Cotswold village in Wiltshire, very close to the Gloucestershire boarder. It is thought that there has been a settlement here since 4500 BCE but the earliest evidence are the Bronze age Round Barrows. The 15th centaury church is the oldest surviving building now.

Down Ampney is a small village on the Wiltshire Gloucestershire border in the southern Cotswolds. British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams was born here in the vicarage. The cross on the green is a war memorial to the villagers who served in the first and second world wars. RAF Down Ampney was nearby so the village was home to around 3000 service personnel during the second world war.

Used to be very good. Slightly disappointing selection on last visit. Best turn up early of opt for somewhere else if you want something more substantial.

Nice little town to cycle through. Generally quiet as not a very convenient through route for drivers. Can be narrow in places so more of a steady paced route options.

These lanes were lovely and quiet.

Had to stop here for a quick repair after a puncture on the way to Tetbury. Also sells coffee.

A nice place to stop for a while, there is a little bench to rest just to the right of the church.

A pleasant place to stop and fill the water bottle. Microwave available in the shop if you fancy a hot snack.

Winding or wind-ing? Can be torturous when the prevailing wind is blowing as its slightly up hill and exposed. Alternatively, it can be an absolutely blast going the other way towards Chavenage, where you'll find the famous Wild Carrot cafe... you might even meet GCN Hank... or his dad! The road surface is pretty good unless you meet cars... it's fairly narrow and the edges can be rough, especially the pull ins, which are often a moonscape!
