Great place for a cream tea!

Absolutely stunning village, beautiful buildings, a lovely woodland trail to west Porlock & the harbour. Oh, and some awesome (and very old) pubs! I went in October & it was still very busy, so I do imagine that it would be quite overwhelming during the summer, too many people (personally, I tend to avoid doing anything during the summer unless it is at a time / location that won't be busy! 😅)

Porlock Wier is a small, charming, and ancient port within Exmoor National Park. It is very picturesque and surrounded by typical West Somerset coastal hills, which makes it a great place to use as a base for some hiking and biking. As well as activities, it is a thriving little harbour with beautiful scenery, a place to relax and spend some time at.

Dropping down throught the trees and to the river feels prehistoric and anathama to the bare moorland above. Refil water in the stream and carry on towards the coast.

Amozing bridleway surface for getting some good speed up as you head towards the coast. Really open with great views and yeah, FAST!

Porlock’s name derived from its description of a “Locked Port” when the sea receded leaving a strip of rich alluvial land (much of which is now marshland) bordered by a stone ridge beach stretching across the bay. The village is a mile or so from the sea and also lies at the base of Porlock Hill, a winding road famously testing vehicles with a gradient of one in four at its steepest point. Porlock has many attractive old properties with histories of their own. Follow this short trail to appreciate their picturesque qualities, whilst we draw attention to particular features of interest.

Beautiful quiet road with stunning views, just watch the small stones in places, quite sharp and we picked up a puncture.

Stunning gradual climb through awesome countryside.

Possibly the best pound you will ever spend on a toll road. It's quiet, smooth and incredibly scenic.

Incredible toll road, which costs is £1 for bikes. I'd highly recommend this climb over the busy and steep A-road alternative up Porlock Hill. Probably one of the most picturesque roads in the South of England, with beautiful switchbacks and wonderful views.

Porlock is a popular yet authentic Exmoor village. Set in Porlock Vale, between the rolling hills of Exmoor and the sea, the village boasts characterful streets that wind between thatched cottages, shops, galleries, pubs, restaurants, and tea rooms. Tea Room Cake & Coffee

The place is nice, the tea room is very nice, but the cream tea was really poor. Seems like this is always the case in NT cafes these days. The man got his sausage roll without any side dishes, we had to ask for cutlery... Everything was very chaotic, but the place is nice, the people tried hard... You accept that. I just wouldn't expect too much!

Village straight out of a picture book, only accessible on a single-lane road. There is a large NT car park (expensive) which is a good start for walks along the coast. The tea room is also recommended. And then you've seen almost everything, Bossington is as tiny as it is adorable!
