Rhön-Extratour "Dreienberg"를 따라 있는 보호소들 중에서 이곳이 특히 눈에 띕니다. 오두막과 야외 좌석 외에도 샘물이 있습니다. 특히 여름에는 이 그늘진 장소가 매우 쾌적합니다. 전망은 없지만, 다른 보호소들이 제공합니다.

The medieval Friedewald Castle is almost completely surrounded by a deep moat and is the image of a typical supra-regional moated castle.

Access to Friedewald Castle is via a gate on the west side. This gate is flanked by the so-called Thick Tower. The Thick Tower was the thickest of the four towers and had outer walls that were 3.5 meters thick in places.

Emigrant Makes Headlines in America During the course of 1872, August Spies, then 16 years old and the son of a forester from the Hessian village of Friedewald near Hersfeld, boarded an emigrant ship to America—like approximately 115,000 other residents of the German Empire that year. Fifteen years later, he was forced to ascend the scaffold in the new metropolis of Chicago to be "hung by the neck until he died," as ordered by the jury under Judge Gary on October 9, 1886, which found him and seven other defendants responsible for the bombing of Chicago's Haymarket on May 4, 1886. The village was first documented in 1183 as "the mill with accessories of Gozzelendorf." South of the highway, on a forest meadow, the ruins of the Gißlingskirche church have been preserved. The almost square choir tower, as the remains of the rib arches' attachment points reveal, was vaulted and accessible through the demolished church hall.
