It serves as flood protection, as it can be opened to allow shipping traffic. The flood barrier protects the surrounding towns from storm surges and was built between 1964 and 1967. Important information about the Lühe bascule bridge: The bridge is located at the mouth of the Lühe River where it flows into the Elbe River near Grünendeich. Its function allows shipping traffic over the Lühe flood barrier. It also protects against flooding. The bridge is operated by the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation (NLWKN). Opening hours: Between April 15th and September 30th, the bridge operator is on site daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. During these hours, the bridge is opened for use during the three hours before and after high tide. A visit is highly recommended and interesting 👍🏻.
