The reason for the erection of this memorial cross takes us back in time to the beginning of the 20th century. The founders of this small sacred monument, deliberately erected at this location—their intention is documented in the inscription on a brass plaque on the base of the wooden cross—wanted it to commemorate the widow Anna Gertrud Mommertz, who was murdered here on April 30, 1909. Passing hikers often find the memorial cross (crucifix) decorated with flowers.

Shelter for several people in the forest, should you be surprised by a rain shower.

A very nice rest area in summer with a large terrace. Very busy on weekends.

Beautifully situated in the middle of nature, slightly off the route but a pleasure to take a break here

The Weiden Forestry House belonged to the municipality of Weiden until 1972. It was built in 1864. The most famous forester was named Peters. Later, the Knops family leased the property. The property is located in the so-called Reichswald (Imperial Forest).

Even on Friday afternoons during the (holiday) week, I was able to have a quick drink (and eat a delicious raspberry tiramisu), but all tables were already reserved for dinner from 6 p.m.

Unfortunately, there is often too much going on here for just a quick break, at least on weekends. Recommended as a destination or as a firmly planned starting point. A more relaxed break is possible during the week. The location is beautiful right next to the forest between Würselen and Stolberg Atsch.
