A wonderful destination for a day trip and highly recommended.

The Pleißenbach district park, part of the "City on the River" project, is the largest of Chemnitz's intervention areas as European Capital of Culture 2025. The site of the former Altendorf freight depot, located between Beyerstraße and Rudolf-Krahl-Straße, was characterized by brownfield sites, natural succession, and an ecologically degraded, heavily built-up natural area. Following the withdrawal of the railway, the opportunity arose to create a new urban space with publicly accessible open areas, as well as additional space for housing, community facilities, and businesses, including flood protection measures. The idea for the redevelopment of the site of the long-abandoned Deutsche Bahn freight depot in the Altendorf district dates back to 2014. Extensive participatory processes allowed citizens to influence the park's design. The design of the newly created children's playground also benefited from significant input from children. Perfect cycle path especially for racing bikes, but you should be very careful near the playground, at the newly built bridge, because of children
