Great view of The Old Man of Coniston, a prominent fell in the Furness Fells. It's the highest point in the historic county of Lancashire. Rising to at least 2,632 feet (802m), it's situated to the west of the village of Coniston and Coniston Water.

Nestled in the heart of Grizedale Forest, between Coniston Water and Windermere, lies the Grizedale Visitor Centre. The Visitor Centre offers a range of facilities, including a new exhibition space with year-round programs, a gift shop, tearoom, adventure playground, and picnic tables. It's an ideal starting point for breathtaking forest walks and mountain biking.

Chesters is an excellent cafe known for its delicious vegan and vegetarian food. The food portions are generous, and the cafe has recently adopted more of an 'in and out' cafeteria style. Located by the river, Chesters provides both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a great spot to stop and admire the beautiful surroundings.

Good climb from either side, as of April 2024 there are lots of holes on the Coniston side so be careful

Hawkshead is another small touristy type village. Compact, close knit streets, cul-de-sacs, etc. Souvenir shops , pubs and restaurants are all located here. Good parking, toilets, signage of local areas are all there

700ft of flatstick floaty gravel decent full of touchy feely trailing the back brake; drifting the rear laterally through your cleats and dive bombing the hairpins before squaring off the tip - in & sprinting the big ring out the exit back up to pace. This combined with the dropdead view of Coniston water, 20C sunshine and YT music picking the '92 white label of Ntrance's set you free through my headphones makes this a memory that'll stick for a long time. PSA: the bottom of this exits onto the Nibthwaite to Coniston/Hawkshead road. Look for Lawson park if you wanted to climb this off the road.

Beautiful flowing Lane through the valley passing the visitors' centre and cafe (bike shop and adventure playground too) - good place for a stop for easily accessible public loos too
