It is nice to see a boating lake, and it would be nice to see it in the summer with people using it, from he Waterways website : The Venetian Waterways and Boating Lake have been an integral part of Great Yarmouth’s seafront landscape since their construction in the 1920s. Situated at the northern end of Marine Parade, the Boating Lake was first opened in 1926, followed by the Venetian Waterways in 1928 – designed by S. P. Thompson and built as part of a relief work scheme for the local unemployed after the First World War.T

It's now a card museum with an entrance fee. There's nothing visible from the road.

A lifting bridge so sometimes you might have to wait to pass. Good views along Yarmouth's quayside.

You can park here all day on a Saturday for £4.10 using the PayByPhone parking app. There are only a handful of spaces.

The Rivers Yare and Waveney are two of the Broads' great rivers, along with the River Bure. Here, these two great watercourses meet, flowing into Breydon Water. Around 2,000 years ago, this would've been part of the Great Estuary, a vast estuary with extensive mudflats. In Roman times, boats would've been able to sail down the Yare as far as Caistor St Edmund and large ships would have been able to follow the Waveney all the way to Bungay. The nearby Roman fort at Burgh Castle was built to protect this important waterway.

Gorgeous views, watch out for the midges though

Caister Castle has a 100ft / 33m high tower built in the 15th Century by Sir John Fastolf, who was an inspiration for William Shakespeare's Falstaff. The castle fell into ruin after 1600 but the tower is still intact and can be climbed.

Burgh Castle was built in the 3rd century AD to protect the south and south east against Saxon raids. It is one of nine Roman Saxon Shore forts that was built in this period. The ruined walls sit on sloping group above the River Waveney's estuary in Norfolk. The fort is remarkably well-preserved and a great place to step back in British history.

This historic lifting bridge dates back to 1930 and is still in regular use to allow boats from the North Sea into the harbour. Only the latest iteration, there have been multiple prior bridges crossing at the same point. If you’re lucky, you might get to see the bridge rise and settle back down, something which does not always work on the first attempt; it's renowned for not going back into place perfectly. A magnificent bridge, it was once the only place to cross and thus heavily congested. Still busy, the load had been lightened somewhat by the opening of Breydon Bridge in the 80s.

The Castle is currently home to the largest private collection of motor vehicles in Britain which is housed in a purpose built museum and includes many fine and rare veteran, vintage, classic, sports and touring automobiles and motorcycles. Highlights include: An 1893 Panhard et Levassor (the first real car in the world) The very first Ford Fiesta off the production line Jim Clark's Lotus Peter Rachman's Cadillac A Bentley Speed 6 Bugatti Harley Davidson and many more... The collection is complemented by a display of bicycles, horse-drawn vehicles, pedal cars and other related items.

Great in April

Every year, over 64,000 birds visit Berney Marshes and Breydon Water Nature Reserve. You will find pink-footed geese, wigeons, lapwings and many more species. The reserve is particularly spectacular in winter when thousands of wintering ducks, geese and swans come to the estuary and marshes. The reserve is open at all times and entrance is free. Nice trip to The Broads.

Burgh Castle is the best-preserved Roman monument in East Anglia. During the 3rd and 4th centuries AD, the fort was one of a chain sited at intervals around the coast of southeast England. During its long history, the fort has also been the site of a Norman castle and an early Christian monastery. The remains of the fort itself are in the guardianship of English Heritage and the site is free to enter.

Breydon Water is a marshy expanse along the River Yare. As very few roads cross these slippery silt flats, this area is one of the most isolated in The Broads. As such, birds flourish here and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) manages quite a large part, maintaining it as a nature reserve to encourage both rare and common species.

Great Yarmouth Minster is the third largest parish church in England, due to its floor surface area. Founded in 1101, many restorations through the centuries have gradually changed the building. The church has some very impressive stained glass windows, too.
