Burrator Reservoir is a stunning reservoir in Dartmoor. It sits on the southern side, as it was built to supply water to the people of Plymouth. Here there is a lovely little unnamed water fall coming into the reservoir off the thick wooded western hillside. There is also a little bench seat here. A great break spot if you're doing a lakeside trail.

Good rocky desent and would be a good climb on an ebike

Easy underfoot, this fast-draining and well-surfaced trail takes you south from Princetown onto the south moor. You'll pass South Hessary Tor on the way to Nun's Cross as you go. The Plume of Feathers pub at the Princetown end has a campsite and serves local Jail Ale, making it a great adventure base for exploring this part of the moor.

Leat waterfall is a waterfall that can be seen at Burrator Reservoir, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. It is formed by the water from the historic Devonport Leat, which was built in the 18th century to supply water to Plymouth Dockyard. The leat runs along the valley and ends at Burrator in a cascade of water that drops into the reservoir. The waterfall can be viewed from a footpath that follows the leat and crosses a bridge over it. The footpath also leads to the Burrator Discovery Centre, which offers exhibitions and displays about Burrator’s history, wildlife and culture. Leat waterfall is one of the attractions of Burrator Reservoir, which is a popular destination for families, nature enthusiasts, historians and Dartmoor lovers alike. The reservoir offers ample walks, views and wildlife, as well as fishing opportunities. You can also explore one of Dartmoor’s most spectacular tors, Sheepstor, which dominates Burrator and offers one of the most impressive views of the reservoir.

Burrator Discovery Centre is a visitor centre located near Burrator Reservoir, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. It opened in 2014 as part of the Burrator Historic and Natural Environment project. The centre offers exhibitions and displays about Burrator’s history, wildlife and culture. You can see spoken history, an interactive screen and a children’s discovery zone. You can also explore the conservation garden, which features a totem pole and a range of plants found on Dartmoor. The centre is open from 10am to 4pm daily, except for Saturdays and alternate Thursdays. You can also buy permits for fishing at Burrator Reservoir, which is one of the most tranquil and picturesque natural angling venues in the South West. The reservoir is surrounded by woodlands, wetlands and moorlands, and offers ample walks and views.

This is a tranquil little place, excellent for a walk, run or cycle. Beautiful scenery with lots of viewing points. Surrounded by woodland, it's often more sheltered here than on the high moor. A road runs round the reservoir, so if you are walking, be aware of traffic.

Burrator Dam was built in 1898. According to information boards in the nearby Burrator Discovery Centre, the dam is 23.4m/77ft high and 114m/375ft wide and is built from granite and concrete.

Burrator Reservoir, near Yelverton on the south-west side of Dartmoor, is surrounded by attractive wooded countryside. On the west side of the reservoir this waterfall is fed by the Devonport Leat, an artificial watercourse that was constructed in the 1790s to provide a water supply to Devonport. Most of the water from the leat now flows into Burrator Reservoir which supplies water to Plymouth.

Burrator Reservoir is situated within Dartmoor, and the tranquil water and surrounding mixed woodland contrasts sharply with the open moor and the rugged Dartmoor tors. A trip here can be combined with a walk across the moors, or enjoyed as a trip of its own with plenty to do – from walking and taking in the views, to fishing for rainbow and brown trout (just be sure to get a permit, available online or by calling South West Lakes). Devon has relatively few lakes, but the situation and quality of these make them a hidden gem in Devon’s crown.

The Burrator Discovery Centre is full of useful and interesting information about both the reservoir and the surrounding area.

The dam was finished here in 1898 to block the River Meavy at Burrator Gorge to create the Burrator Reservoir. The reservoir now not only provides drinking water to the city of Plymouth but is a beautiful place to walk. The route around the water's edge, through mixed woodland, can be completed in either direction and is very different to walking the surrounding moors and tors. It is perfect for families and those who would prefer an easier walk as it is flat with a good surface.

My first experience on the Boneshaker was an eye opener. Filled to the brim with loose stones and rocks i did second guess my decision at first, but once I got over my initial hesitance, i started to have alot of fun. Arms, legs and suspension working overtime on this track, which after a few miles drops you back to the Northern edge of Burrator. If you want to test your mtb and what it can do, I highly recommend.

As you descend the rocky trail back toward Burrator, you're not only treated to a fantasticly bumpy ride, but the most amazing view South West too.
