Upper Burbage, is within the Peak District National Park near Hathersage, Derbyshire. A beautiful valley famous for its stunning gritstone edges, expansive moorlands, and rich biodiversity. This area appeals to hikers, climbers, photographers, birdwatchers and other outdoors enthusiast It consists of two natural formations: Upper Burbage Edge and Lower Burbage Edge. They provide panoramic views. And its heather-clad moorlands hosts various species of wildlife. Birdwatchers may find ring ouzel, nightjar, woodcock, and snipe. Access is from The Upper Burbage Bridge Car Park

Check before you go as it’s not always overflowing. Lots of beautiful circular walks ranging from 3 miles to 22 miles.

Approach the base of the Derwent Dam from Fairholmes car park and walk across the open field to get up close and personal with the overflowing torrent of white water. It’s a spectacular sight and the noise is incredible. Feel the mist generated by the cascade on your face. Wonderful viewpoint for photographs!

A lovely gritstone outcrop high on Derwent Edge, also known as the Coach and Horses

This bridge was further downstream originally but was moved when the reservoirs were created as its a scheduled monument.

This is a trail that’s close to my heart, it’s so beautiful but also very manageable for someone with not so good fitness, once you climb the first part away from Kings Oak roundabout it’s easy going walking along the tree lined track, the reward for the climb is the stunningly beautiful packhorse bridge that was removed in the 1940’s from it’s original site in the village of Derwent and rebuilt in it’s present position at slippery stones, after crossing the bridge the landscape here then opens up to display the open moorland peaks beyond.

Great place to stop for a drink and/or a bite to eat before, during or after a ride, the car park is handy and there’s toilets, there’s also a bike maintenance station and a wash too, the visitors centre is only closed 2 days a year, Christmas Day and Boxing Day?
