This really is such a stunning area of woodland, and it is truly worth a visit. Personally (just my preference), I would avoid summer at all costs! The pub is heaving, there (can be) fights over the car park 😳🙈... Plus, it is surprisingly hilly! Although the hills do reward you with gorgeous views, it's something to bear in mind with hot weather. Plus, I just think woodland has such a stunning atmosphere in Autumn 🍂. Whenever you choose to go, I am sure you'll love it. Some of the paths are quite rocky & steep, so just another thing to bear in mind - but certainly don't be put off!

A great drive through the Gorge, then park in one of the layby's and hike up either side of the Gorge to the top (pretty steep), where you get great views of Cheddar and the surrounding areas. Cheddar itself has a slightly Alpine Village feel to it.

Still £6.10 per day. The machine doesn't give change and doesn't give back any excess coins 😭

Lovely little cafe on the roundabout. car park nearby. Friendly staff, gluten and vegan friendly menu. selection of hot and cold meals, cakes, tea and barista coffees available.

I got here early, and car park was empty. All day parking is £6.10, via an app on phone. paybyphone location number 801850.... Great to relax and have a cheese and pickle sandwich, knowing you don't have to leave as soon as you get back to car. No cameras and only a traffic warden.

Lovely looped trail. the landscape is lumped and bumped in the most weirdest of ways. I realised that the mounds were actually man made from the mining days, and grass and nature had covered them all over. Sheep graze freely in the area.

An old quarry used now for a rest stop by hikers. noticed a bit of litter and abandoned items of clothing. Didn't see any bins in the area. It's a shame that people can easily ruin the beauty of a place.

I bought 2 big blocks of cheese from here. Who comes to Cheddar and doesn't buy cheese!?

Stunning views across the plains of Somerset. can see for absolutely miles on a clear day. Don't be fooled in to thinking it's an easy route I have made. It really isn't. Proper footwear and even poles are recommended. Bring waterproofs as back up shelter, as there are not many places out of the gorge to shelter. Download the route to device also, there is no phone coverage the further in to the gorge you go.
