Skipton Castle (the birth place of Anne) stands next to Holy Trinity Church which was severely damaged during the English Civil War. The church was repaired by Anne in 1655 and contains the Clifford family tombs. The castle itself is open to the public and was the birth place of Lady Anne (1590). She finally inherited the castle after a 40 year legal battle in 1643. She began a 10 year restoration project in 1649.

There is no entrance to the steeper part except to shimmy around fences. We thought the hike straight up was very rocky with no direct path. Muddy and slippery. We turned around when we couldn’t find a clear path at the top. I would say this is not easy. Unless we were on some other trail.

Run round the reservoir on decent tracks or better still head up onto the moor behind to Crookrise or Embsay Crag - both great routes with amazing views

This reservoir, which supplies water to the Skipton town area, has quite a lot of character because of the proud hills surrounding it. It is a great place for an easy jog around it on tracks and paths here, but also a good place to start if you're heading further into the hills.

This church was built in 1853 in the early English gothic style. It was built mainly for mill workers and the poor of the parish: at that time, there were six cotton spinning mills in Eastby and Embsay around here. Inside, spot the memorial stained-glass window, to Reverend Henry Cooper (by Baptiste Capronnier), which is rather striking. Cooper was the church's first incumbent, and died in 1860.

It is a great place for an easy walk around it on tracks and paths here, but also a good place to start if you're heading further into the hills (Embsay Crag is not too far from here). In the summer months, you will likely see sailing boats on the reservoir; a sailing club operates from here.

In 2018, the Woodland Trust commissioned two pieces of natural sculpture for Skipton Castle Woods to celebrate the medieval origins of the wood as a larder and hunting ground for Skipton Castle. The sculptures were based on a design brief from Woodland Trust interpreted by Yorkshire based willow artist, Anna Cross.

Very nice small market town with a castle, shops and other amenities.

The castle is other 900 years old and is very well preserved. You take a walk in the wood around the outside of the castle for free or alternatively pay to visit the castle itself.

Medieval church in origin which was first built in the 12th century with further additions and renovations in later years.
