Beautiful trees

The Caves Of Keash tower over the small village of Keash on the west side of Keshcorran Hill. The caves consist of 17 chambers and have clear evidence of human life in the form of brown bear, red deer and wolf bones. Jump off the bike and walk up to the caves to see into a window of ancient history.

This castle was built during the nine years war from 1592 to 1601 on an ancient road that connected Ballymoate with Boyle. The fortress was built to defend the pass through the Curlew mountains. Nowadays the castle lies in ruins, and it is free to visit.

This road sits on the side of a hill with fantastic views of the green fields and Lough Key below.

A fantastic spot to take in the views of the lough and the quiet rolling hills of the countryside.

Head through the old twisted yew trees and over the old stone bridge to reach this interesting small island that you can cycle around.

Despite being the largest town in Leitrim county, Carrick-on-Shannon is the smallest county town in Ireland. The historic town lies on the banks of the River Shannon and has a pretty quay that was once used as a major stop-off for river trade for goods such as Guinness stout. The town has a number of cafes, restaurants and shops, as well as an interesting Neo-Gothic church. Around the June bank holiday, the streets come alive with colour and celebration during the Carrick Carnival.
