Imposing barrage on the Lech River. At barrage 22, the water is diverted from the Lech River to the Lochbach, where three additional, smaller weirs are located. On the northern edge of Augsburg, the wide, parallel Lech Canal branches off towards Meitingen and only flows back into the riverbed after more than 20 kilometers. Along this Lech Canal are three power plants built between 1898 and 1922 (Gersthofen, Langweid, and Meitingen canal power plants). The amount of water dammed up must be gigantic – we see the surface and take a break to get some peace and quiet.

The Lochbach, formerly also called Brunnenlech, is a 9 km long left channel of the Lech. Four mills used to be in operation there.
