A very beautiful tower. Strictly speaking, the tower is no longer located in Nierstein, but in Oppenheim (which is also assigned to the postal code 55276, i.e., Oppenheim). Therefore, it is sometimes referred to as the Oppenheim Defence Tower. The rest areas below the tower (two tables with benches and a bench) also invite you to linger.

When the visibility is good, you can see Frankfurt's skyscrapers very clearly.

The red slope in Nierstein is, by the way, one of the most important “terroirs” for wine in the world.

The "Valtinchen" was merely a branch line, which commuted between Nierstein and Köngernheim from November 1, 1900, to May 29, 1960. Actually, something bigger was in mind: As early as 1840, railway pioneer Friedrich List planned a railway from Darmstadt to Alzey – via Nierstein and Köngernheim. However, the excessive costs of the Rhine crossing caused this project to fail. Construction was delayed by a full 60 years; the first concrete plans for the railway did not appear again until 1890. Another 10 years passed before the ceremonial opening train (with a concluding banquet in the Nierstein "Krone"). Usually, five pairs of passenger trains traveled the route. ... Dexheim station received a great honor on August 2, 1957: The special election campaign train of then-Chancellor Dr. Konrad Adenauer was parked there overnight. The "Red Hang" is the name given to a wine-growing region located between Nackenheim and Nierstein. Geologically, it is known as the Nierstein Formation.

The Trutzturm (Truth Tower) in the Nierstein district was built several years ago in the middle of the vineyards to protect against the rain. Many clubs held their festivals here, and radio amateurs also set up their equipment there. However, due to vandalism over the years, efforts to maintain the tower were repeatedly abandoned. Some radio amateurs from the surrounding area are now trying to restore the Trutzturm and its surroundings, hoping that more vandalism will be avoided. The tower is located approximately 215 meters above sea level and offers a magnificent view in all directions. This is ideal for us radio amateurs. The exact locator is JN49EU.
