The church was built in 1893 as a rectangular brick building in the neo-Romanesque style based on a design by the architect Friedrich Wilhelm Gründel. One third of the construction costs were borne by the community and two thirds by the church's patron saint. The new building replaced a half-timbered church built in 1585.
