Babelsberg Castle is the former summer residence of the German Emperor Wilhelm I. It is located in Babelsberg Park in the Potsdam district of Babelsberg and was built in 1834 in the Tudor style, based on the English Windsor Castle. The residence was built in two phases.

Babelsberg Palace, built in the English neo-Gothic style, stands majestically on the banks of the Havel. Babelsberg Palace and Park were built in 1833 for Prince Wilhelm of Prussia (later Emperor Wilhelm I) and his wife Princess Augusta of Saxe-Weimar. For more than fifty years, Babelsberg served as the summer residence of the future royal and imperial couple. Between 1833 and 1835, the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel created the first palace, which was only the size of a small cottage. When Prince Wilhelm was appointed heir to the Prussian throne in 1840, his official duties also increased. As a result of this increase in rank, the palace was extended between 1844 and 1849 by the architects Ludwig Persius and Johann Heinrich Strack at the request of the client. Wilhelm and Augusta played an active role in the design and furnishing of their summer residence.
