From above the castle gardens, there is a clear and impressive view of Schwerin Castle. From this perspective, the castle's location becomes particularly apparent: it sits on an island in the castle lake and is surrounded by water and expansive gardens. The elevated position allows for a good overview of the castle's architectural structure with its towers, gables, and central dome. The Baroque and Neo-Gothic elements of the castle's architecture are clearly visible from this distance. Likewise, the harmonious integration of the castle into the surrounding landscape can be appreciated. The castle gardens, with their symmetrically laid-out paths, lawns, and rows of trees, form an orderly framework that underscores the building's grandeur.

The Cross Canal in Schwerin Palace Gardens is one of the most impressive design elements of the historic park surrounding Schwerin Palace. It was created in the 18th century as part of the Baroque redesign of the palace gardens and reflects the spirit of that era, in which symmetry, perspective, and the connection between architecture and nature played a central role. The canal gets its name from its cruciform shape: two straight watercourses intersect at right angles, forming a geometric center that blends harmoniously into the overall composition of the garden. Charming vistas open up from the banks of the Cross Canal – on the one hand, to the magnificent Schwerin Palace, and on the other, to the expansive garden areas, avenues, and vistas that extend in all directions. The Cross Canal served not only as an ornamental feature but also as a way to showcase water as a dynamic design element. The smooth water reflected the surrounding trees, sculptures, and garden architecture, creating a play of light and reflection that is particularly captivating as the seasons change. Today, the Kreuzkanal (Cross Canal) is one of the most popular spots in Schwerin Palace Gardens. It invites visitors to linger and stroll, while also offering a vivid impression of the Baroque garden design that is still preserved and cultivated in Schwerin.

When the subtle lighting of the bridge structure reflects in the water of Ostdorfer Lake at dusk, its elegant curve comes into its own. In 2021, the new, impressive cycle bridge between the two peninsulas of Krösnitz and Dwang was officially inaugurated. The steel structure has a total length of 92 meters. The bridge completes the 1.2-kilometer-long new cycle path from southern Dwang to the Krösnitz peninsula. "The nature-oriented tourist cycle route runs on municipal land directly along the shores of Lake Ostorf and Lake Faulen. With unobstructed views of both lakes and the city skyline, it offers a strong attraction for cyclists and pedestrians.
